Joyce joins the Bottom Dollar team which includes photographer Richie (Oscar Montoya), former centrefold and talent co-ordinator, Bambi (Jessica Lowe), and financial controller Tina (Idara Victor). So the feminist idealist teams up with the commercial pragmatist and an unlikely partnership is born, along with Minx, a magazine inspired by real publications like Viva and Playgirl. While Joyce recoils from all that Doug represents, she can’t fault his logic. Because, he argues, women don’t get the opportunity to enjoy photos of naked men in the same way that men can look at women. He spies a gap in the market and suggests that what her magazine really needs – aside from a different title – is male centrefolds. Credit: Stanĭoug publishes soft-core porn magazines with titles like Yank My Doodle and Kung Fu Cuties and when they meet at a California book-industry event where publishers entertain pitches, he’s the only one prepared to give her proposal any consideration.
